Check tickets & tours →Ta Prohm
The temple left in the grip of strangler figs, roots pouring over the stonework. Famous from Tomb Raider, and best mid-morning when the light comes through the canopy.

🚌 Transportation
Tuk-tuks are the standard way to tour Angkor — hire one for a full day at ₹1,200–₹1,800, which includes waiting between temples. Use the PassApp or Grab apps in both cities for fixed prices. Siem Reap to Phnom Penh takes six hours by bus (₹800) or 45 minutes by flight. Bicycles work for the inner Angkor circuit if you can handle the heat.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Khmer food is milder than Thai — fish amok, lok lak and kuy teav noodles cost ₹150–₹400 at local places, more on Pub Street. Markets sell fruit and grilled skewers cheaply. Vegetarian food is available but fish sauce and shrimp paste are common, so specify clearly. US dollars circulate alongside riel; carry small notes and expect change in riel.
🏨 Best Hotels
Siem Reap: the Old Market and Wat Bo areas put you near restaurants and 15 minutes from Angkor. Boutique hotels with pools cost ₹2,500–₹5,000, which is remarkable value. Phnom Penh: the riverside for views, BKK1 for cafés and quiet.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Generally safe, though bag-snatching from motorbikes is a real problem in Phnom Penh — carry bags on the far side from traffic. Never stray from marked paths in rural areas: unexploded ordnance and landmines remain in parts of the countryside. Angkor demands covered shoulders and knees. Beware child-begging and orphanage-visit schemes, which are widely condemned as exploitative. Heat exhaustion at the temples is common; start at 5am and rest by noon.
