Best time to visit: December to May, the dry season. June–November is typhoon season.

About Philippines

The Philippines has the best island scenery in Southeast Asia and the most demanding logistics — over seven thousand islands mean internal flights and boat transfers eat into a short trip. Eight days realistically covers Palawan or Boracay, not both. There are no direct flights from India.

Highlights

Palawan and El Nido lagoons; Coron wreck diving; Boracay's White Beach; Chocolate Hills in Bohol; Manila's Intramuros

🚌 Transportation

This is an archipelago of 7,000 islands and internal flights are unavoidable — budget for two or three on any real itinerary, plus buffer time, because delays are routine. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines are the main carriers. Island transport means bangka outrigger boats and tricycles. Grab works in Manila and Cebu. Never plan a same-day domestic-to-international connection.

🍽️ Best Restaurants

Adobo, sinigang, lechon and halo-halo, with meals at ₹250–₹600. Filipino cooking is meat-forward and vinegar-sharp; vegetarians will struggle outside tourist restaurants, so plan around Indian and Western places in the main towns. Fresh seafood grilled at the market is the best value going. Rice comes with everything.

🏨 Best Hotels

El Nido: the town for restaurants and boat departures, Corong-Corong for sunsets, Lio for resorts. Coron: the town centre for tours. Boracay: Station 2 for the centre, Station 1 for the best sand and quieter luxury. Book ahead for December–April.

🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips

Tourist areas are safe, but the Philippines needs more care than most of Southeast Asia. Avoid the Sulu Archipelago and mainland Mindanao entirely — kidnapping risk is real and most governments advise against travel there. Petty theft is common in Manila; use Grab rather than street taxis. Typhoon season runs June to November and cancels ferries and flights at short notice. Sunburn and boat-day dehydration catch out most first-timers.
