Check tickets & tours →Thai cooking class
Half a day that starts at a wet market picking herbs and ends with you cooking green curry and pad thai. The single best-value thing most visitors do in Thailand.
Check tickets & tours →📍 Where to Go
- Bangkok — temples, markets and the river; 2 days is enough for a first visit.
- Phuket / Krabi — Andaman beaches and island trips. Krabi is quieter, Phuket has more flights.
- Chiang Mai — northern temples, cooking classes and ethical elephant sanctuaries. Add only if you have 8+ days.
🎯 Things to Do
- Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun in Bangkok
- Longtail boat to Phi Phi and Maya Bay
- Chatuchak weekend market (Sat–Sun only)
- Thai cooking class or a traditional massage
- Floating markets at Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa
🚌 Transportation
Bangkok's BTS Skytrain and MRT are cheap, air-conditioned and beat the traffic — buy a Rabbit card. Use Grab rather than hailing taxis to avoid meter arguments. Domestic flights to Phuket or Chiang Mai cost little and save a 12-hour bus. On the islands, longtail boats and songthaews are the norm; agree the fare before you get in.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Eat where the locals queue. Street stalls cost ₹60–₹150 a plate and are generally safe if the food is cooked in front of you. Try pad krapow, boat noodles, som tam and mango sticky rice. Vegetarians should learn 'jay' (เจ) — it means no meat, no fish sauce. Indian food is easy to find in Bangkok's Phahurat district.
🏨 Best Hotels
Bangkok: Sukhumvit for nightlife and transport, Silom for business, Khao San for backpackers, Riverside for views. Phuket: Kata and Karon for families, Patong for nightlife, Bang Tao for quiet. Krabi: Ao Nang for convenience, Railay for scenery.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Thailand is very safe for tourists, including solo women. Common scams: the 'temple is closed today' tuk-tuk detour to a gem shop, jet-ski damage claims, and rigged taxi meters. Never hand over your passport as a rental deposit. Drink bottled water. Respect the monarchy — criticism is a criminal offence. Dress modestly at temples: shoulders and knees covered.
