🚌 Transportation
Istanbul's trams, metro and ferries all run on the Istanbulkart — buy one immediately and top it up. Domestic flights to Kayseri or Nevşehir for Cappadocia cost ₹2,000–₹4,000 and take 90 minutes; overnight buses are comfortable but eat a night. In Cappadocia you need a tour or a rental car — the sights are spread across valleys. Taxi meter disputes are common in Istanbul; use BiTaksi or Uber.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Turkish breakfast is a feast and usually included at hotels. Street food — simit, balık ekmek, döner — costs ₹80–₹250. A restaurant meze spread runs ₹800–₹1,500. Vegetarians do well: mercimek çorbası, gözleme, and countless olive-oil vegetable dishes. Turkish tea is endlessly offered; accepting is polite, and refusing repeatedly is not.

Istanbul: Sultanahmet for walking to the monuments, Beyoğlu/Galata for nightlife and character, Kadıköy on the Asian side for local life and lower prices. Cappadocia: Göreme for the balloon views and central location, Uçhisar for quieter luxury. Cave hotels are the experience worth paying for.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Turkey is generally safe for tourists, and Istanbul's tourist areas are well policed. Watch for: the 'friendly local' who leads solo male travellers to an overpriced bar, shoe-shine and carpet-shop hustles near Sultanahmet, and taxi drivers taking long routes. Avoid the Syrian border region entirely. Balloon flights cancel in poor weather — build a spare morning into your Cappadocia stay, and book with an operator that refunds.
