🚌 Transportation
Domestic flights between Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City are cheap and save whole days. Overnight sleeper trains are a decent alternative on the Hanoi–Hue route. Grab works in every city for both cars and motorbikes. Crossing the road is a skill: walk slowly and steadily, and let the scooters flow around you — never run or stop suddenly.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Pho, banh mi, bun cha and fresh spring rolls, mostly ₹80–₹200 a portion. Vietnamese food uses fish sauce almost everywhere, so vegetarians should say 'an chay' and look for pagoda-run vegetarian restaurants, which are common and excellent. Bia hoi — fresh draught beer on street corners — costs under ₹40 a glass.

Hanoi: Old Quarter for atmosphere, Ba Dinh for quiet. Ho Chi Minh City: District 1 for everything central. Hoi An: Old Town for charm, An Bang for the beach. Halong Bay is done as an overnight cruise rather than a hotel stay.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Very safe for violent crime; petty theft is the real risk. Bag-snatching from passing scooters is common in Ho Chi Minh City — keep your phone away from the roadside and never wear a bag on your street-side shoulder. Only take metered Mai Linh or Vinasun taxis, or use Grab. Check your e-visa details carefully: a mismatch with your passport means denied boarding.
